The Roloff Beny Gallery at the Royal Ontario Museum showcased a newly-revitalized space on the September 26th launch of the Vanity Fair Portraits: Photographs 1913-2008 exhibit, hosted by the Institute for Contemporary Culture. While maintaining respect for the architecture of the building, the Royal Ontario Museum had been seeking a sustainable solution that would allow for a variety of installations. The result—a newly-configured gallery space inspired by icebergs—is a collection of nine new and elevated walls, creating “space within the space”. Varied in height and angle, the walls not only enhance natural light, but also guide the visitor’s movement and generate a dialogue with the existing architecture.
