Bloom Holistic Retreat

South Frontenac, ON

Nestled within a tranquil 12,000-square-foot sanctuary, the Bloom Holistic Retreat stands as a testament to the harmonious fusion of architectural ingenuity and serene natural surroundings. Dedicated to the profound practice and teachings of yoga, this retreat centre seamlessly integrates a pre-existing cottage with a cruciform addition, strategically positioned near the calming waters, evoking a sense of unity between old and new.

The retreat boasts a mass timber structure, intricately sandblasted and stained in a white-washed palette. The architectural narrative unfolds through cathedral ceilings, extending the roofline to create an expansive space that captures the essence of the three pivotal moments – arrival, internal perspectives, and sweeping views through expansive glass windows onto the serene lake.

The studio exudes tranquillity with indirect lighting, operable windows for natural ventilation, and dedicated fans for comfort. The retreat experience extends outdoors to an expansive deck, strategically oriented to capture the mesmerizing sunset views over the serene lake.

The structure's exterior features cedar roofing and cladding, complemented by blackened steel accents on the stairs, while the interiors feature double-height spaces, bespoke tables by Brother’s Dresseler, and custom-designed storage for yoga equipment seamlessly integrated with the original structure's columns.

Bloom Holistic Retreat creates an environment where individuals can immerse themselves in the transformative practice of yoga, meditation, and self-discovery, far removed from the distractions of daily life.

With a client deeply passionate about art, the placement of walls and dimensions were dictated by the existing collection, creating a harmonious marriage of architecture and aesthetics.
